Incoming Mason freshman and EIP graduate Muhammad Farhan Babar is no stranger to helping others.

In partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Tech Talent initiative and in anticipation of Amazon HQ2’s arrival, George Mason Ģ��AV is expanding its programs in computer science and related fields by a third at the undergraduate level and threefold at the graduate level.

Now that most public school districts have resumed in-person instruction, those in health care are beginning to see increases in pediatric admissions due to COVID-19 and other respiratory pathogens and are bracing for surges, according to Amira Albert Roess, professor of global health and epidemiology in George Mason Ģ��AV’s College of Health and Human Services.

As a child, Nathaniel Socks said he was restless, and could often be found tapping his hands on nearby objects. His mom enrolled him in drum lessons in second grade, he said, which led to his favorite hobby—one that taught him valuable life lessons. “I got to see how if you put in hard work and dedicate yourself to something really hard, how cool the product can be,” the incoming George Mason Ģ��AV freshman said. “That was one thing that really got me into drumming—you can see the progression of practicing.”

Preparing aspiring health care providers is no small task and requires a true partnership between academic instructors and internship preceptors. The value of partnership to successfully prepare students for a career in health administration is exemplified by the relationship between Anastasia (Stacey) Schaab, senior director of nursing rehabilitation at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, and John (Jay) Shiver and Virginia (Ginny) Blair, associate professors in the Health Administration program in Mason’s Department of Health Administration and Policy. 

With 80,000 streams on Spotify, music technology major Jessica Taylor is on a fast track to her goal of a successful career in the music industry. She sees her time at Mason as an opportunity to advance her skills as a singer, songwriter and producer by taking courses in music theory, keyboard and voice lessons.

George Mason Ģ��AV is disbursing millions of dollars in CARES Act funding to more than 14,000 eligible students this fall, with the latest funds to be awarded in early September.
